THE RETIRED INVESTIGATORS GUILD IS A REGISTERED 501(C)(3) NONPROFIT CORPORATION
The RIG
RestorING America's faith in law enforcement

Committed to Filling Today’s Need

America’s law enforcement agencies are struggling to provide desperately needed public safety services with insufficient manpower and shrinking budgets. At the same time, violent crime is increasing at appalling rates. One major result is that more and more serious crimes are falling into the Cold Case category, leaving families with no prospect for justice and criminals free to re-offend time and time again.

The Retired Investigators Guild (RIG) has been formed to fill the void. We have created a coalition of individuals, agencies, companies, and nonprofit organizations, each providing a vital part of the solution and together adding a much-needed resource to our nation’s law enforcement capabilities.

The team of expert retired and former major case investigators who donate their time comprise the core of the RIG. They are available on a 24x7 basis to work directly with local law enforcement and are as involved as the local agency wants them to be – ranging from taking charge of cold case homicides to mentoring and supporting local detectives on active major criminal investigations.

We are building partnerships that provide access to a range of technologies and disciplines allowing the RIG to offer cutting edge resources that often make the difference in solving major crimes. For example, we have established agreements that enable the RIG to offer DNA analysis at no cost to the requesting agency. The RIG is able to achieve economies of scale that are simply not available to many small and rural law enforcement agencies.

Law enforcement is dealing with an unprecedented set of factors:
  • Violent crimes are increasing at an alarming rate across the country
  • Major crime experts have been retiring at increasing numbers
  • Local communities and even national agencies are significantly behind their quotas in recruiting new officers at all levels
  • The cost of essential technology such as DNA analysis and genome sequencing is often too expensive for reduced budgets
The RIG accomplishes its mission by weaving together three primary elements:
  1. Our volunteer RIG investigators, who represent the very best of the best retired and former homicide and major case detectives who provide their time and expertise.
  2. Our partner law enforcement agencies, who provide liaison and tactical support for the RIG investigators.
  3. Our RIG Foundation Fund which covers:
  • All expenses associated with the RIG investigators’ involvement including travel and per diem when needed.
  • A proprietary, secure online case management system and related network resources to support all aspects of RIG operations, to include preparation and      presentation of case materials for use in legal proceedings.
  • All expenses associated with the use of scientific analysis and application of technologies that aid in solving cases.
  • A unique incentive package to ensure the long-term retention of RIG investigators.

The RIG's Mission is:

Restoring America’s faith in law enforcement and continuing the tireless pursuit of criminals in the interest of victims of violent crime.

With a special emphasis on cold case homicides, the RIG is committed to shining light into the darkness that so often surrounds these cases and their victims. We offer hope, answers, and the bringing forward of names of both known and unknown victims and perpetrators so that families and communities can begin the process of healing and moving forward.

The RIG is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We rely on grants and donations from organizations and individuals. Without our generous donors, we would not be able to offer these critically important services. Help us achieve our mission by donating today.
