Cold Case Commitment: Answers for the Forgotten

Across the country, more than 250,000 major crimes - including homicides - remain unsolved and classified as cold cases. Yet fewer than 18% of law enforcement agencies have a dedicated cold case unit. This leaves countless families in limbo and entire communities without closure or accountability.
The Retired Investigators Guild exists to confront this crisis. Our team focuses on unresolved homicides, working closely with local agencies to breathe new life into long-dormant investigations and bring long-awaited answers to those left behind.

We are especially committed to serving communities that have been historically underserved -where cold cases too often go uninvestigated. To ensure accountability and equity, we dedicate at least 50% of the cases we accept to victims from these communities.  Every case matters. Every family deserves answers. And we will leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of justice regardless of race, religion, culture, or socioeconomic background.

Passing the Torch: Training Tomorrow’s Investigators
With departments nationwide facing critical staffing shortages, the need for specialized, real-world training has never been greater. The RIG proudly delivers expert-led programs designed to equip the next generation of detectives with the skills and judgment required to solve major crimes.
Our training is led by some of the most accomplished investigators in the country - retired professionals who’ve worked the toughest cases and bring decades of hands-on experience. Courses are offered online, on demand, and in person, making them accessible to agencies of all sizes.
By sharing proven investigative techniques and mentorship, we help local law enforcement strengthen their capabilities, increase case clearance rates, and better serve the communities they protect.

Standing With Those Who Serve
The RIG is committed to being a trusted partner to law enforcement agencies across the country. Through cold case investigations, active case support, and specialized training, we help strengthen the backbone of America’s public safety infrastructure - one case, one department at a time.
Our services are provided at no cost to police departments and sheriff’s offices. As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we rely on grants and donations to fund our work - so agencies can focus on protecting their communities without the burden of additional costs.
We’re here to support those who serve because justice should never be limited by budget.
