“Justice Never Retires"

The Retired Investigators Guild
The Retired Investigators Guild (RIG) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit made up of retired law enforcement officers and military veterans who volunteer their time, experience, and compassion to solve cold case homicides and support active investigations. Our mission is simple but profound: to bring justice to victims, closure to families, and answers to communities long left in the dark.

We believe the people are the police, and the police are the people. That bond - rooted in service, integrity, and shared responsibility - guides everything we do. At The RIG, we work to rebuild that connection through action: by standing with families, collaborating with agencies, and refusing to let victims be forgotten.
With decades of experience investigating major crimes, our team works directly with local law enforcement agencies - often around the clock - to support cases that have gone cold or require specialized guidance. Whether reopening a decades-old homicide or mentoring detectives on active investigations, RIG members are driven by duty, not recognition.

We prioritize cases involving women, children, and members of traditionally underserved communities - individuals whose stories are too often overlooked. Our work shines a light where others have stopped looking, giving families hope and helping communities heal.

To maximize our impact, RIG leverages cutting-edge forensic tools and strategic partnerships with experts in DNA analysis, digital forensics, and investigative technologies. These collaborations allow us to provide advanced resources - often at no cost - to smaller departments that otherwise couldn’t afford them. Through these efforts, we help agencies break through investigative roadblocks and scale their work effectively.
Fueled entirely by grants and donations, RIG delivers these services free of charge. We believe every victim deserves justice, and no case should be forgotten simply because a department lacks the resources to pursue it.

A System Under Strain
Law enforcement agencies across the country are facing a convergence of challenges that threaten their ability to investigate and solve violent crimes:

Escalating Violent Crime
Homicide and violent crime rates are rising, placing unprecedented demands on already overextended investigators and patrol units.

Loss of Institutional Knowledge
As veteran detectives and forensic specialists retire in record numbers, agencies are losing decades of investigative experience - creating a critical gap in leadership and case-solving capacity.

Recruitment Shortfalls
Departments nationwide are struggling to attract and retain new officers and investigators. Staffing shortages are leaving communities vulnerable and cases unsolved.

Soaring Technology Costs
Access to vital investigative tools like DNA analysis, genome sequencing, and digital forensics is often cost-prohibitive especially for small and mid-sized departments operating under tight budgets.
Together, these factors have created a crisis in modern law enforcement - one that calls for immediate, collaborative, and innovative solutions.

The Rig Explained
1-833-RIG-LINE
Law enforcement agencies across the country are grappling with a perfect storm of challenges:
  • Rising Violent Crime: Violent crime rates are surging at an alarming pace, putting immense pressure on already overburdened law enforcement resources.
  • Retirement of Experienced Experts: A growing number of seasoned crime experts are retiring, leaving a critical gap in investigative expertise and leadership.
  • Recruitment Shortfalls: Both local communities and national agencies are falling far behind in meeting recruitment goals, leaving departments understaffed and struggling to maintain public safety.
  • Rising Technology Costs: The high cost of essential investigative technologies, such as DNA analysis and genome sequencing, is often beyond the reach of agencies facing shrinking budgets.
These factors combine to create a crisis in law enforcement, one that demands immediate and innovative solutions.
